ASOJ sends message to the new Somalia president .
The chairman of Associated Somali
Journalists (ASOJ) Dahir Abdulle Alasow expressed his
congratulation to the moderate Islamist leader Sheik
Sharif Sheik Ahmed on his election as the new president of
Somalia on Thursday in a parliament vote held in Djibouti.
"I do welcome the new president for Somalia cleric Sheik
Ahmed and I am thanking the Djiboutian president Ismael
Omar Gelle for his affection and talent of holding
historic presidential election for Somalia to make it out
of crisis," Alasow, ASOJ chairman told in a press
conference sending strong message to the new leader of
Somalia.
In his message, Mr. Alasow hinted the new president Sheik
Ahmed to show respect to the free press in Somalia and
warned him of taking the same route by the former regimes
and not to avert from the justice.
"Mr. president, you should now that I will write down more
about you if i see some gabs on your task like
impartiality, tribalism and corruption so be careful of
these wrong doings done by your predecessors,� said Alasow.
The ASOJ chairman also noted that the Somali journalists
faced many hardships including killing, torturing,
intimidating, and oppression and forcing them to flee the
country. "I am asking for the president to respect the
freedom of expression," added Alasow.
He urged all the media people in Somalia to help restore
peace and stability in the country.
