Somalia:ASOJ reviles NUSOJ as it opposed by exiled
journalists in Djibouti .
Mogadishu 02 May 2009
Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) is strongly
condemning the National Union of Somali Journalists for
rerouting the rights of the journalists living in Djibouti
as exile, unfairness and money-laundering.
ASOJ is also accusing the Djibouti government of
encouraging the so-called Journalist union leader to
divert the foreign funds attended to help the journalists
that fled for their safety.
This follows a complaint by a group of Somali journalists
in Djibouti who opposed a newly form Somali Independent
News Agency by NUSOJ leadership depicting it as none
representing the exiled journalists.
“We are here by indicating that we are absolutely against
the formation of SOMINA and see it as a tool served for
particular aim. We were expecting that the journalists
taken for the new agency will include those exiled in
Djibouti but that did not happen and rights were violated
indeed,” said in a statement issued by a group of six
Somali journalists living in Djibouti.
The statement released by Mekahil Rashid Bare and
Abdukadir Zubeyr Hassan of Shabelle Media Network,
Abdulahi Muse Kalgacal of Horn Afrik Radio, Farhan Hared
Mohamud and Mohamed Nor Moalin Johanes of Government Radio
in Baidoa and Mohamed Moalin Osman (All-Man) of
Somalitalk.com and Ayamaha News Press.
“It is unfortunate, shameful and dishonesty that the
Djibouti information minister Ali Abdi Farah makes
dishonor to the journalists in his country and
collaborates with a man known for exploiting the
journalists’ name . What we know that the cheater Omar
Faruk, the NUSOJ general secretary lost the latest aid
money paid by Doha Media center for six journalists
operating in Mogadishu,” said Dahir Abdulle Alasow, ASOJ
chairman.
Alasow described Omar Faruk as a man who looks after only
for his own interest and leaves behind the troubled
journalists.
They said they are telling all the Somali journalists in
and out of the country that they are not represented by
the NUSOJ and called it as an organization used by figures
that behave like warlords and always do ignore the rights
of the Somali journalists and take the aid money in one
pocket.
