Council.
Mogadishu 04 May 2009
Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) is welcoming on
Monday the decision in which the government’s minister of
information disbanded the formation of the National Media
Council as positive step towards democracy..
“We are thanking the information minister Farhan Ali for
his move to stop the so-called Media Council from
exploiting the journalists’ name and we see that there is
now a window of chance for all journalists to form a new
Council of Media that can really represent themselves,”
said Dahir Abdule Alasow, the chairman of ASOJ.
Alasow pointed out that the current government is now on
the exact track to choose right from wrong as it kicked
out those use the nation for their particular interest.
He called for all journalists in and outside of Somalia to
collectively support the minister’s decision and be
prepared for independently shaping an effective media
council as every journalist has the right to stand for
election of the council’s leadership.
“The National Media Council is a name among all the
journalists but it is not something can be taken in one’s
pocket and also given recognition by the neighboring
countries like Djibouti,” Alasow added.
ASOJ chairman asked for the international media groups to
help Somali journalists with the formation of new National
Media Council.
