ASOJ will open the first journalism institute ever established in Somalia. “This is going to be a changing trend. So far 33 students have registered for the courses offered, ranging from basics of journalism to advanced subjects” said by ASOJ chairman Mr. Dahir Abdulle Alasow.

The opening ceremony of the institute will be held at its new premises near Arafat Hospital in Mogadishu 15 November, 2006. Veteran journalists and former university lecturers, together with Kenyan experts will teach the two-year diploma course of journalism. “Mogadishu has more than 30 media organization run and work mostly by people with little or no knowledge on what journalism is all about. The institute will help these organizations find the right people with the right knowledge” added by Mr. Alasow.
